Gov't Blocks 1,815 New Zealand Terrorism Contents

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Communication and Informatics Ministry as per 12 pm today, March 16, has blocked 1,816 contents related to the terrorist act in Christchurch, New Zealand, through the ministry's website crawler dubbed AIS.
The ministry has removed 896 contents from Instagram, 512 on Twitter, 274 on Facebook, and 134 on YouTube. "We also warn social media users or website owners to not spread such contents," said a ministry's public relation official Ferdinandus Setu on Saturday, March 16.

The numbers skyrocketed in just one day. On March 15, the Communication and Informatics Minister Rudiantara mentioned on his Twitter account that the government had blocked at least 500 posts containing terrorism act in New Zealand on the internet and social media.
Ferdinandus also called on the public to not spread contents showing the brutal shootings broke out in New Zealand either in the form of picture/photo or video.
He opined that such acts would pose more fear among the public, besides, a video containing violent acts is included as content that violates the electronic information law (UU ITE).
